Your child's sensory world: understanding and supporting them

Does your child react strongly to sounds, clothes, food or everyday requests?

Paediatric occupational therapist Maya Gorris Ponce will explain how children experience the world and what you can change at home. Two hours of practical learning in a small group. The workshop is held entirely in Spanish.

THE PROGRAMME

What we'll cover in two hours

A little theory, plenty of real-life examples and hands-on activities you can try yourself. You're welcome to ask questions at any point.

Let's start with you

Do you concentrate better in silence or with music? Are there clothes you avoid because they feel uncomfortable? We all have sensory preferences, and they can change with tiredness and mood.

How the brain processes sensations

Alongside sight, hearing and touch, we rely on our sense of balance, awareness of our body's position and internal signals. Maya will explain how these affect a child's responses.

Experience it for yourself

Try activities that help explain why one child finds noise overwhelming while another actively seeks movement and touch.

Everyday situations

Food, clothing, hair washing and busy shopping centres. We'll explore why children may refuse certain things, signs to look out for and how sensory processing relates to autism and ADHD.

Your plan for the week

Choose an everyday situation at home, observe what happens and try one small change. Maya will answer questions at the end.
